A peek into the creative mind

Welcome to my sketchbook, a window into the raw beginnings of my artwork. Here you'll discover the ideas, concepts and practice that shape my artistic journey, revealing the thought process behind each creation. I hope you enjoy exploring what truly inspires me.

There is also a deep dive into the research and idea generation in my graphic design page

It was beauty killed the beast

Composition study from the original King Kong (1933).

This appeals to my enjoyment of cityscapes and concept of celebrating elegant beauty. Gel pen on paper, A3.

Leaper against the light

Quick freehand sketch in pen, from life. Exploring shadow and form. Jaguar leaper emblem. A6

Show Me

Another composition study from a film (Christine, 1983). A real favourite in terms of era, music and subject. 2 of my favourite decades (50s and 80s) in one. Particularly exploring texture here. Gel pen on paper, A3.

Portland Road

The newly pedestrianised cafe quarter of Worthing. A particularly enjoyable memory with this one. It was before I had any formal training and mum wanted to join me. I wanted her to too, but did warn her (despite being July) not to moan if it got cold, which I knew it would being an evening sketch. Sure enough she was both happy to come along and moaned when it was cold! At which point, the sketch was cut short and we went home. The painting of this will form part of the 'Home' series.
